​In his visit to the United States in September, 1987, Pope St. John Paul II held a session with deacons and their wives. During his address, he told the deacons "This is at the very heart of the diaconate to which you have been called: to be a servant of the mysteries of Christ and, at one and the same time, to be a servant of your brothers and sisters. That these two dimensions are inseparably joined together in one reality shows the important nature of the ministry which is yours by ordination." 

Our convention for 2026 will focus on our vocation as servants to Christ and our brothers and sisters in the Church. We look forward to sharing our time together as we concentrate on these mysteries of our vocation as Deacon Directors. 

2025 Convention Presentations ​For Members

Each April the NADD hosts an annual convention.  Typically held Tuesday through Thursday, this is an opportunity for NADD members and others involved with Diaconate Formation and Supervision to come together in prayer and fellowship while hearing speakers’ presentations on timely topics for the Diaconate.  Each year the Convention is hosted by one of the Arch/Diocese Members, coordinated by the NADD Vice Chairman and the Director of the host Diocese.

The Director’s Workshops, offered before the “official” opening of the Convention, gives an opportunity for new Directors to hear from tenured Directors offering tried and true techniques and methods to help them in their efforts as they get accustomed to their position.  The following two days offer keynote presentations or breakout sessions, (usually geared toward Formation or Diaconal Ministry), by Nationally known presenters based on the theme of the Convention.
